The Bank Holiday weekend is the perfect excuse to spend some quality time with your other half. The last bank holiday of the year takes place at the end of this month and we’re hoping it will be accompanied by some fantastic weather, but then again, we can’t have it all.

Liverpool is known for being one of the most romantic cities in the UK, with rich history, stunning architecture and a wide selection of intimate bars & restaurants, we guarantee there is plenty to do in Liverpool for a romantic bank holiday weekend.

From our very own version of the Love Locks along the River Mersey to Sefton Palm House, there isn’t anywhere else we recommend you spend your bank holiday.

Stroll Along the Albert Dock

One of the most romantic settings in Liverpool is the Albert Dock at sunset. Stroll hand in hand and take in the magnificent views of the River Mersey and the Albert Dock, lit up in all her glory.

The Albert Dock is home to the highest number of Grade I listed building in the UK and is filled with a number of fine restaurants and bars so you can enjoy a lovely meal or cocktail whilst watching the sun go down.

Picnic at Sefton Park

Weather dependent, a picnic at Sefton park is a brilliantly romantic way to spend your long weekend.

Walk around the beautiful park, feed the ducks and enjoy a bike ride; there is plenty to keep you occupied for a full day at Sefton Park.

Situated within Sefton Park is the breathtaking Palm House, a Grade II listed Victoria Glasshouse that has been remarkably restored to offer the public a beautiful oasis filled with palms and other exotic plants. Unless there is a private event taking place, the Palm House is open to the public for you to go and explore.

Get Scientific at The Alchemist

The Alchemist is Liverpool’s newest and coolest bar & restaurant.

Serving up an incredible selection of science inspired concoctions, you’ll be mesmerised watching your cocktail being made.

Not only does this fabulous venue serve breathtaking cocktails but there is also an excellently crafted dining menu filled with everything from traditional Spanish tapas to Japanese ramen ensuring that the eclectic menu has something for everyone.

Housed in an opulent Grade II listest venue within the business district, The Alchemist is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as delicious cocktails until late.

Cinema Date to FACT

FACT is a unique picturehouse where people, art and technology come together. Offering something a little different than your normal cinema, FACT showcases some amazing independent and off the radar films which you won’t catch at Odeon.

There is also a lovely café which is operated by Leaf on Bold Street serving delicious teas and coffees, wine, a selection of hearty sandwiches and of course, scrumptious cakes.

Explore the Bombed Out Church

St Luke’s or The Bombed Out Church as its locally known is Liverpool’s pride and joy. After being hit by a fire bomb during the Liverpool Blitz in 1941, St Luke’s became a shell of itself but remained open as a memorial to those who died in the war. Now, the church is home to a number of unique events, film showings and weddings. Opening every Wednesday – Sunday, you can explore the grounds and the church where fire damage is still apparent.

Are you and your partner adventure hunters?

Spend your bank holiday taking in the wonderful sites of Liverpool’s docklands from the water. Hire a canoe from Liverpool’s Watersports Centre with your other half and have an action packed day exploring Liverpool from a new and exciting perspective.

Croxteth Park is one of the biggest open spaces in Liverpool making it perfect for a romantic bike ride during the bank holiday weekend.

Spanning across an impressive 500 acres, Croxteth Park is made up of The Historic Hall, Croxteth Home Farm and the Victorian Walled Garden as well as the country park where the local nature reserve is situated. You could spend hours biking around Croxteth Park but we suggest you take a picnic with you and head to the hall, which is steeped in history and grandeur. You can enjoy the hall which is open to the public as well as the gardens and glasshouses where Liverpool’s historic botanical collection is housed.

As well as taking in the incredible architecture, stain glass windows and sheer enormity of this magnificent building, why not try something a little different and take the lift, or stairs (if you’re fit enough) up the tower.

Situated 500ft above sea level and with 360 panoramic views of Liverpool you’ll have never seen Liverpool from this angle before. On a good day, you can even see Blackpool Tower, making it an iconic and extremely romantic venue in the city.

Experience a Zombie Apocalypse at Newsham Park Hospital

Are you a couple who thinks they’d fair well during a zombie apocalypse?
If so, then The Asylum at Liverpool’s abandoned Newsham Park Hospital is the perfect test for you. Spend three hours avoiding and fighting real life zombies as you try to find a cure to save the world.

If The Walking Dead is your cup of tea, then this is an experience you definitely need to try with your other half. You’ll have to work as a team so this is a fun activity which will really test you both.
