Some of the most exciting events in Liverpool happen in May. A month that is stocked full of amazing things to do in the city and not one but two lovely long bank holiday weekends.

Start the Liverpool Festival Season at Smithdown Rod

When: 1st – 27th

Where: Smithdown Road area

Kick off the Liverpool festival season in style on Smithdown Road, as the start of the city’s top live music events begins.

The trendy bars, cafes and restaurants on Smithdown Road are firm favourites among residents of the city and, during the Smithdown Road Festival, these venues play host to some of the greatest local talents.

This year, in collaboration with The Whitechapel Centre, organisers have planned an entire month of exciting events and artist appearances, that are all totally free to enjoy.

Swinging and Cruising on the River

Where: Mersey Ferries

One of the best things about the sunnier months in Liverpool are the summer ferry cruises, and this year Mersey Ferries will be bringing something “big” to the sun-kissed waters of Liverpool.

Cruisers will be able to float away, right back to the era of glitz and glam, as The Prohibition Pop Band provide a night of nostalgia and big band tunes.

Rolling along on the gentle waves of the River Mersey guests can enjoy alcohol, light refreshments and stunning sunset views of Liverpool onboard this one of a kind Mersey Ferry Cruise.

Break Free at ASBO Cinema’s Bohemian Rhapsody

The Show Must Go On at ASBO cinema alongside all the popcorn throwing shenanigans, dancing and sing-a-longs.

This screening is promising to be one of their biggest and best yet.

The Sound of Liverpool City

Where: 3rd – 5th

When it comes to producing fantastic musical talent, there’s no city that delivers quite like Liverpool. This month we can all look forward to one of Liverpool’s greatest musical events; Liverpool Sound City.

Get ready, as the three-day festival brings its usual wicked line-up to the city’s most energetic and artistic hot spot, The Baltic Triangle.

Well known chart toppers, Mabel and Loyle Carner, will be headlining the weekend and they’ll be joined by a long line of emerging talent from within the city and all over the world.

Signature Live Events: The Real People and The Cheap Thrills

This one will be bringing Liverpool lads, The Real People back to perform for their adoring fans in the city. Known as one of the original Brit-pop influencers of a generation, The Real People can count Oasis among their fans.

Lighting up the city for the 10th year running, organisations all over Liverpool will be getting involved in a city-wide celebration of world-class culture, as LightNight returns for another year.

The theme ’Rituals’ has been chosen to help inspire new commissions, installations and performances all over the city, all of which invite the public to understand rituals from all around the globe.

The best Liverpool events not to be missed this LightNight are the Cave Raves in UOL Victoria Gallery, The Drag Lab at Everyman Theatre and Fireside stories being told in Baltic Triangle.
