May is one of the best months of the year. Not only is it the start of summer but there are also two bank holidays to look forward to. With this in mind, we’ve constructed handy guide to help you navigate your way around all the best events in Liverpool taking place in May.

May the Fourth Be With You – Star Wars Quiz

Where: Bombed out Church

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away . . . the best film series ever was filmed.

This created a band of fans named ‘Star Warriors’ whose knowledge of the furthest reaches of the galaxy was unfathomable. This knowledge will be put to the test this May under the stars in the Bombed Out Church and the Star Wars – May the Fourth Be With You Quiz.

If you think you’re a Jedi Knight and have what it takes to win the top prizes up for grabs then make sure you get your seat in this epic battle of the minds

Sound City

Where: Baltic Triangle

When: 4th-7th

The first festival of the season is due to begin in Liverpool and we can’t wait.

Sound City has moved to pastures a new and will be taking over various venues in the Baltic Triangle, bringing to music-loving audiences a line-up of new and upcoming talent.

There will be performances from every genre of music from cool and acoustic indie to the more artistically inclined and heavier rock.

The best thing is that most of the acts taking to the stages are just starting out in what are set to be promising careers within the industry. So, if you’re lucky, you may get to see the next big thing at this year’s Sound City.

Gold Digger

Where: Camp and Furnace

When: 5th

If you spent your youth two-stepping to Ja Rule, wishing you were Jenny from the Block and doing this dance

then you need to get yourself to the Gold Digger Sh*t Indie Disco coming to Camp and Furnace.

Let the night take you and your friends back to a simpler time. Before Kanye knew Kim, when TLC didn’t want no scrubs and when Missy E was telling y’all to get your freak’s on.

An evening of 90s and 00s hip-hop nostalgia topped up with inflatable props and the chance to win some “awesome” prizes.

Rooftop Party

Where: HUS

Where: 5th

Capsule will be taking their final party of the season up to the dizzy heights of HUS’ rooftop terrace.

One of the most amazing rooftop spaces in the city will be decked out in the finest summer attire including tiki huts, torches and inflatable palm trees.

Pop along to kick-start your summer with some fist bumping tunes provided by Capsule’s resident DJ’s, a few cold ones and fingers crossed a little bit of sunshine for the bank holiday.

Dig Deep

Where: Grove Beer Tap and Grill

When: 5th

Give the summer gardening a rest and instead of digging deep into your flowerbeds come to the Grove Beer Tap and Grill and Dig Deeps ultimate garden party.

Enjoy some superb live DJ’s pumping out an amazing soundtrack for the day as well as enjoying some delicious BBQ and a long list of refreshing ales and cocktails.

Vintage Present Duke & The Soulful Gospel

The superb sounds of Duke and a soulful gospel choir will be bringing audiences at Alma de Cuba a real treat his May bank holiday.

If you love house music from the last three decades and enjoy a good dance with a delicious drink in hand, Alma de Cuba is where you need to be this early bank holiday weekend.

Spend your Sunday in church worshipping the last 30 years of the best club classics brought to you by talented live DJs and the heavenly voices of a gospel choir.

Craig Charles Soul and Funk Club

Where: Camp and Furnace

When:12th

Popular Radio 6 Scouser, Craig Charles, returns to the city with a soul and funk night like no other this May.

Make your way to Camp and Furnace to wrap your ears around the latest releases of the funkiest tracks, as well as some of the best soul and funk classics from the past.

Spare Rib Superstar

Where: Constellations

When: 17th

The fine art of burlesque is often confused with the simple art of stripping when in truth burlesque involves a whole lot more.

To see some truly talented burlesque acts pop along to Constellations this May and watch as a group of talented ladies (and “ladies”)  take to the stage to tantalise and titillate their audience with superb performances.

Everything from singing and comedy to drag acts and dancing will be involved and of course, expect to see masters of the striptease at work too.

Twisted Tunnels

Where: Williamson Tunnels

When: 19th

The Williamson Tunnels are a sight to behold, no one truly knows why they were built, they just were and now, thanks to the people that have painstakingly excavated these hidden wonders, Liverpool has the perfect place to host an underground club night.

For an evening of old-school club hits brought to you by some of today’s top DJs, Twisted Tunnels is your chance to have the night of a lifetime inside one of Liverpool’s most magnificent historic landmarks.

Club Tropicana

For a holiday without the plane ride head to the Whitestar Grand Hall at 30 James Street where they will be bringing Club Tropicana to Liverpool for one night only.

There’ll be a George Michael tribute act, a delicious two-course meal, complimentary fizz on arrival and plenty of Wham’s chart-topping tunes for you to tap your toes along to.

If, like so many of us out there, you miss the brothers Gallagher rocking out live on stage, then why not check out the next best thing at a Definitely Oasis gig.

Coming to the stage at The Zanzibar this talented tribute act will help you “Roll With It” through some of Oasis’ best-known tunes and “Little by Little” you might be able to accept that Oasis will indeed “Live Forever” through tribute acts like Definitely Oasis.

Million Dollar Men

Magic Mike has nothing on these guys as the Million Dollar Men amaze their audience with a lot more than just their perfect bods.

The Million Dollar Men show at Arthouse Hotel provides audiences with a display of talents that stretches far beyond good looks and ventures into the downright daring.

Expect acrobats and fire-breathing as well as some delightful dance moves and a real feast for the eyes in more ways than one.

Clubland Live

SoulJam will be wrapping up the student season as the start of summer rolls in with one final jam session at Constellations.

Summer Soulin’ will be a great place to enjoy some feel good Funk, some super smooth Soul and some seriously danceable Disco tracks.

This is your last chance to wear head to toe sequins and get your groove on to the very best boogie music in town.

What a month of amazing events in Liverpool from festivals and club nights to burlesque shows and tribute acts,  all brilliant ways to experience the best venues in the city and make some awesome memories of your time in Liverpool.

Now, all we need is some of that rare British sunshine and May is promising to be one heck of an ufrogettable month in 2018.
