Independents Week Celebrates Liverpool’s Homegrown Business

Liverpool is undeniably a force to be reckoned with when it comes to great independent stores, restaurants and bars.

There are hundreds of Liverpool-born independents that are making serious waves and winning over hearts across the city and its regions. There is no end to the products and produce on offer from great Liverpool businesses, whether that be local beers, handmade products, speciality cakes or carefully crafted coffee.

The thriving independent scene has led to one of the most exciting events for independent businesses ever: Independents’ Week.

The seven-day celebration kicks off on Monday 3rd July with many of the city’s vibrant and thriving businesses offering unique and one of a kind offers and events. The whole celebration will cumulate in a never before seen independent takeover of Bold Street – the home of Liverpool independents.

The celebration of our fine independents was initiated by Liverpool BID Company and aims to put a spotlight on the great products that the people of Liverpool create.

Celebrating Bold Street

Bold Street

While events are running throughout the week at Liverpool’s brilliant independent and homegrown stores, shops and restaurants, the real party starts on Sunday 9th July.  A huge festival will take over Bold Street to showcase the talent of Liverpool and the businesses that make the city great.

There’s a farmers market throughout the day, with pop kitchens from the restaurants and bars that call the iconic street home.

If you’re looking for a Liverpool keepsake, there will be arts and crafts stalls with handmade trinkets from local traders.

For the kids, there is entertainment throughout the day too with giant games, Tai Chi demonstrations, street theatre and face painting dotted around the area.

The celebration marks the end of Independents Week and is certain to be unmissable. A trip to Liverpool this weekend just wouldn’t be the same without venturing to the cobbled streets of Liverpool’s home of independents.

Independents Networking Breakfast

On Tuesday 4th July, Liverpool’s independents will gather at Oh Me Oh My on Water Street to celebrate the growth of independent business in Liverpool over a special networking breakfast. It’s aimed at Liverpool’s businesses but everyone is invited along.

So, if you’re thinking of becoming Liverpool’s next entrepreneurial mastermind, register your interest and hear from successful independent business owners who are helping to make Liverpool great. Who knows, next year you could feature in Indpendents Week!

Leaf

Where: Bold Street

Offer: 10% at the tea shop

If you’re looking for a modern take on the classic tea room, Leaf is definitely the answer to all your problems. The trendy café-cum-restaurant-cum-bar has a hipster vibe with a warm edge, with long benches that are built for sharing, mismatched furniture and modern fittings.

Their vast range of tea beggars belief and their menu is renowned across Liverpool, but when night falls and the lights get dimmed, that’s when Leaf shines.

Regular live music and unique cocktails help to turn Leaf into a must-visit venue on the Liverpool nightlife scene.

Chicha

Where: Bold Street

Offer: Two courses with a bottle of wine £19.50 per person or £16.50 if paid with Liverpool Local Pound

Chicha boasts itself as the only Peruvian restaurant in the whole of Liverpool and with an atmosphere, venue and menu as good as this, who needs any more?

Ziferblat

Where: St Paul’s Square

Offer: 2 for 1 on coworking day caps

While Ziferblat may not have been founded in Liverpool, it was designed by a Muscovite to be an ‘anti-café’ and has proven popular on the streets of Liverpool.

The idea was to creat new kind of social space, where guests pay for the time they spend in the café rather than for the food and drink they consume. That’s right, all food and drink is free, you just have to pay eight pence per minute to stay there.

The Ziferblat in St Paul’s Square is joining the horde of Liverpool independents next week to offer 2 for 1 on coworking day caps, which, of course, includes unlimited, free food and drink.

Love Thy Neighbour

Love Thy Neighbour is located in the heart of Bold Street and is fast becoming a firm fixture on the street’s consistently thriving scene.

Look out for their trendy artwork both inside and out, and their Instagram-worthy mural dedicated to avocado.

For a cute patisserie-style eatery, head to Wake & Cate to celebrate Liverpool’s wonderful independents. The restaurant is styled on upmarket delicatessens from across Europe and it shows in the beautifully designed eating area and minimalist but intricate deli food.
