Famous Faces Which Passed Through Liverpool in 2015

Liverpool has seen a number of famous faces over the years but last year the city was particularly popular with movie stars, singers and reality TV stars.

2015 is well and truly over but we thought it would be nice to take a look-back, reminisce and see which famous faces graced our beautiful city last year and take a sneak peak at who’s to come over the next 12 months.

Hugh Grant

The English actor was spotted in Liverpool filming Florence Foster Jenkins. The film which is based on the true story of New York heiress and socialite who pursues her dreams of becoming an opera singer. The Hollywood A-lister, Grant plays Florence Foster Jenkins’s husband and manager. Filming took place at the Cunard Building as well as other locations in the city including the Georgian Quarter.

Meryl Streep

The award-winning actress was also in the city in June filming for the same film as Hugh Grant, Florence Foster Jenkins where she plays the leading role of Florence. Filming was taking place in both Liverpool and New Brighton as the architecture is very representative of 1940’s  New York.

Shia LeBouf

The famous actor is well known for his acting abilities in films such as Transformers, Fury and I, Robot. But in 2015, the Hollywood actor came to Liverpool and FACT to take part in his latest performance artwork where he asked members of the public to call in and “touch his soul”. LeBouf was in Liverpool from Thursday 10th of December to Sunday 13th which was part of an exhibition which considers the impact the internet has on our concept of reality. Shia also got a tattoo by fellow artist during a lock-in event when the exhibition ended.

Lionel Richie

Singing sensation, Lionel Richie was at the cities Echo Arena as part of his world tour, the greatest hits show didn’t disappoint as the sold out show lasted two hours and saw thousands of scousers sing along to hits such as Stuck on You, All Around the World and Three Times a Lady.

Tom Hardy

The famous actor was in the city in April to film the hit TV show Peaky Blinders where he stars alongside, Cillian Murphy and Sam Neill, Tom was in the city with his wife Charlotte Riley who was filming Close to the Enemy. Tom was filming in Exchange Flags and popped into the popular American café, Moose Coffee across the road for pancakes with his wife. The programme is set in 1920’s Birmingham but numerous locations around Liverpool have been used as a set including Falkner Square which borders Toxteth. Tom was also spotted watching Avengers: Age of Ultron at the Odeon cinema as well as popping into Central Perk on Bold Street.

Scott Disick

Renowned party animal was in Liverpool to do what he does best and hosted a night at the city centre club, Kingdom. The crowd couldn’t get enough of Scott, or as he likes to be called, Lord, he was greeted with screaming fans, confetti and dancers. Scott also took part in a 40-minute meet and greet with fans who had paid to get a few moments and a photo with the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star who is famous for being married to the oldest Kardashian sister, Kourtney.

Eddie Redmayne

The Oscar-winning actor was in Liverpool to film the Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Redmayne was in the city mid-November where he was filming shots for the film at locations such as St Georges Hall and the Cunard Building. Eddie plays the lead character of Newt Scamander, alongside stars such as Katherine Waterston, Colin Farrell and Samantha Morton.

Paris Hilton

Heiress and pop star, Paris Hilton had a flying visit to Liverpool in May 2015 to promote her new fragrance which was being launched in Liverpool One’s Superdrug. Fans queued for hours to meet the famous socialite whose father was the chairman and co-founder of Hilton Hotels. Paris arrived into Liverpool via train and used the platform as her own catwalk as the public looked on bemused, Paris then has a tour of Liverpool and stopped off at the John Lennon statue on Mathew Street and, of course, visited the Hilton Hotel on The Strand.

Rochelle Humes

The model and popstar set a world record last summer as she took to the catwalk to host a world record attempt for the most models on a catwalk. Thousands of Liverpool locals took to the waterfront and strutted their stuff on the Very Big Catwalk which took place on the 4th July 2015. It was a three-hour runway extravaganza which saw 3,651 models walk the walk.

Vicky Pattison

The Geordie Shore star was in the city to do what she does best, party. In August, the I’m a Celebrity winner brought her sister to the city to enjoy a wild night out for her birthday. Vicky and her friends headed to Liverpool’s city centre for a night out, The Judge Geordie star has past connections to the city as she studied drama at Liverpool’s John Moores University before becoming a reality TV star and becoming a household name.

Amber Rose 

The model and actress who is mostly famous for being Kanye West’s ex-girlfriend, visited Liverpool in April 2015 for a club appearance at Playground nightclub which is located within the Hilton Hotel. Amber was greeted by hundreds of fans and paparazzi for her first visit in Liverpool and stopped to have photos with fans who had been waiting hours just to get a glimpse of her.

Jodie Kidd

World famous model and keen rider, Jodie Kidd was spotted presenting at the Grand National at Aintree for Channel 4’s Weekend Brunch. The model who has appeared in campaigns for Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent and Chloe, as well as being a cover star for Elle Magazine has connections to riding and seems to have turned her hand to presenting.

Bill Bailey

The comedian and musician was in Liverpool at the end of October 2015 for a performance at Liverpool’s Philharmonic on Hope Street. But Bill Bailey made headlines when his tour bus was stolen just before he went on stage. Thieves raided the production office and stole keys to the van as well as laptops. Thankfully the tour bus was found and Bill Bailey expressed his thanks to the city and said the incident hasn’t put him off coming again in 2016.

Jeremy Clarkson

The ex Top Gear presenter caused an uproar when he visited Liverpool at the beginning of 2015 during a Top Gear appearance alongside co-stars Richard Hammond and James May.  Two weeks after his short stop in the city, Clarkson took to his column in The Sunday Times to describe his trip up north. The Liverpool Echo transcribed this column as Clarkson ‘slating’ the city with a number of ‘derogatory terms’. Jeremy Clarkson then took to Twitter to express his aversion towards the paper and their take on his column. This made news around the UK but Jeremy still states his comments were taken out of context.

Sir Cliff Richard

Tehe global superstar visited Liverpool to perform at the cities Philharmonic Hall for the 75th Birthday Tour in October 2015. Cliff, who is hailed as Britain’s all-time greatest hit-maker and ultimate pop star, played the two-hour concert to a sold out Philharmonic Hall. Cliff was also in the city earlier in the year to attended the funeral of Cilla Black where he delivered a moving tribute to the Scouse born star.

Jon Voight

American Academy Award winning actor, Jon Voight visited Liverpool on October 24th for a party with the cast of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them at the Berry Street bar, Red Door. Voight was shown around the city by stunt coordinator and scouser, Eunice Huthart who had been working on the Harry Potter spin-off alongside Eddie Redmayne, Colin Farrell and Samantha Morton.

Gary Barlow

The Take That star gatecrashed the wedding reception of a newlywed couple Anita Jayne Morrissey-Booth and Alex Morrissey at Knowsley Hall. Gary serenaded the happy couple with a rendition of Take That’s ‘A Million Love Songs’ much to the couple’s shock. It was the third surprise wedding Gary gatecrashed in 2015 after pledging to do so in January. Did you know Gary Barlow is also a Liverpool FC supporter and is often seen supporting the club on match days?

Rita Ora

The pop princess joined the likes of Nick Jonas, Little Mix and John Newman for Radio City’s Summer Live concert which took place at the Echo Arena on 18th July 2015. The Voice judge was only in Liverpool for a short time and played four songs from her chart-topping hits including R.I.P, Black Widow, Poison and Hot Right Now.

We’re sure you’ll agree that 2015 welcomed a whole host of famous faces but what does the New Year bring? As well as all the celebrity appearances, Philharmonic performances and footballers there is a whole host of celebrities visiting Liverpool in 2016.

David Hasslehoff

The Hoff is due in Liverpool the 20th of January and will be at the Empire Theatre in the musical show, Last Night a DJ Saved My Life, as well as hosting a special edition of Bongo’s Bingo at Camp & Furnace on Saturday 23rd January which is guaranteed to be amazing. He will be staying at The Shankly Hotel on Victoria Street where the brand new Ultimate Signature Living Apartments were recently unveiled.

Elton John

The legend that is Elton John will also be gracing this great city in June as part of hit Wonderful Crazy Night tour, it will be the first time Elton has performed in Liverpool in over eight years so be prepared for a memorable night.
