Culture: June Events in Liverpool

Hans Zimmer

When: Saturday 17th June 2017

Where: Liverpool Echo Arena

You’re likely to have heard  Oscar-winning composer, Hans Zimmer accompanying your all-time favourite films and TV shows.

Most recently, you may recognise the sounds of Zimmer’s captivating music in both BBC 1’s Planet Earth II and Netflix phenomenon The Crown.

This unique concert experience will showcase Zimmer’s classic scores from movies including The Lion King and Pirates of the Caribbean.

During the second section of the show, Zimmer will showcase re-imagined versions of his scores for films including The Dark Night Triology.

Following a breath-taking performance at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, this is an unmissable chance to see the iconic Hans Zimmer within the heart of Liverpool.

Fiddler on the Roof

When: Friday 9th June to 1st July 2017

Where: The Everyman Theatre

Find yourself transported back to 1905,  rural Russia for an incomparable production of Fiddler on the Roof.

The walls of Liverpool’s fantastic Everyman Theatre will be filled with wonderful songs from the classic musical, including If I were a Rich Man and Miracle of Miracles. 

See the astonishing journey of Tevye and his daughters in action as they  push through the dangers of a changing world.

So this June, make sure you don’t miss this lively revival of this timeless tale, showcasing the talents of its brilliant cast and production crew!

Africa Oyé

When: Saturday 17th June – Sunday 18th June 2017

Where: Sefton Park, Liverpool

Join the diverse and dynamic crowds at Africa Oyé for the UK’S largest celebration of African music and culture.

This annual celebration is highly anticipated and ever expanding, growing from a a series of small gigs in 1992 to its established successes at Sefton Park today.

This year will be the 25th Anniversary edition, hosting best loved artists who have performed over the last 25 years.

The summer extravaganza will feature names such as Max Romeo, Mokoomba and Black Prophet.

So whether you’re a dedicated attendee of Oyé or you’re yet to experience its magic, this is one you won’t want to miss!

Liverpool Hope University Tennis Tournament

When: Thursday 15th June – Sunday 18th June 2017

Where: Liverpool Cricket Club

Liverpool has captured all the excitement and glamour of attending the tennis right at home, so don’t worry if you’re not attending Wimbledon!

This June will mark the 16th edition of the Liverpool Hope University International Tennis Tournament.

Hosted at the scenic Liverpool Cricket Club, this is a wonderful opportunity to catch the action and (hopefully) catch some rays…

The International is now the longest running tennis exhibition in Europe, introducing up and coming talent combined with tennis legends.

For a day of summer entertainment and a glass or two in the sun, there’s simply nowhere better to be!

The Story of the Beatles and Indian Music

Marking the 50th anniversary of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Liverpool’s stunning Philharmonic Hall is set to celebrate George Harrison’s groundbreaking discovery of Indian music and the unforgettable impact it had on The Fab Four.

Local musician Thomas McConnell and his talented band will be joined by mesmerising musicians Jasdeep Singh Degun, Kirpal Singh, Pirashanna Thevarajah and Gurdain Rayatt to bring you a musical experience like no other.

During the biographical concert, you can expect to hear Indian classical music and Beatles’ classics featuring ‘Help’, ‘Norwegian Wood’ and selected songs from the Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band era.

This unique experience will delve into George Harrison’s personal connections with Indian music and Ravi Shankar, shining light on the contrasts of George’s character and the inspiration that shaped his work.

Sex and The City Quiz

Presented by Abandon Silence and 24 Kitchen Street, this new cultural event will see Liverpool’s foremost music promoters join forces for a special weekend of events!

The jam-packed weekend will celebrate Liverpool’s unbeatable music culture, hosting an array of live acts and DJs within the city’s favourite warehouse spaces.

And the festivities certainly won’t go out without a bang! Baltic Weekender will come to an atmospheric finish with an intimate closing party.

Drake Day
