10 Reasons to be Excited for Liverpool’s Christmas Markets

The Christmas Markets are a Liverpool staple during the festive period. They go together like holly and ivy or mistletoe and wine. Well, forget what you already know about the Christmas Markets, because this year they are most certainly better than ever and in a brand new home.

Liverpool City Council are in full control of the event this year, after recently buying the city’s market company for just £1. You can expect great things, and here they are…

1. The New Home

The Liverpool Christmas Markets are now in its 11th year, but this year will have a brand new home outside the iconic St George’s Hall, complementing the DreamWorks Lights show. The much-anticipated markets will open on St George’s Plateau on Friday 18th November, which is the same day ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ will hit cinema screens, with many of the scenes filmed in St George’s Hall – so it’s the perfect day to start your festive celebrations.

2. The Opening Times

From the 18th November to 22nd December, you can enjoy Liverpool’s Christmas Markets at your leisure. The market will run from 11am until 9pm from Monday to Saturday, and you can also enjoy it from 11am to 5pm each Sunday.

3. The Food

Some tasty treats will await you at the Liverpool Christmas Markets, as you can indulge in everything from pork sui mais, freshly baked cakes, crepes, noodles, curries and traditional and speciality pies, pasties and gourmet rolls. There will also be plenty of seasonal treats on offer, including a hog roast, pigs in blankets and Christmas confectionery. Experience food from across the world, as cuisines from countries such as Mexico, Spain, India, China and Italy will be offering delicious dishes you will simply adore.

4. The Drink

If you would like to enjoy a very merry Christmas, you could always enjoy one of the many drinks on offer at the market. Stop Jack Frost nipping at your nose and head into one of the bars lined along the market. You can also enjoy cocktails, gin and mulled wine. It really is the most wonderful time of year.

5. The Arts & Crafts

You will find the perfect gift for that special someone at the Liverpool Christmas Markets, because there are a variety of unique items available at one of the 50 markets that will take to St George’s Plateau this festive season. From seasonal paper star lights and scented candles to hand-knitted gloves and beautiful canvases, there will be something for everyone this year.

6. The DreamWorks Lights

After enjoying a stroll around the Christmas Markets, you can take yourself inside the exquisite St George’s Hall, which will play host to The DreamWorks Lights – a lantern experience that will brighten up your Christmas. Featuring 100 characters, you and your little one can watch 25 memorable scenes from Shrek, Kung Fu Panda and Madagascar. The DreamWorks Lights will open on Saturday 26th November until Sunday 15th January, and is all part of One Magical City.

DreamWorks Lights will be open daily from 10am until 7pm and you can book your tickets at www.dreamworkslights.com.

7. The Animation

No other Christmas markets could possibly compare to Liverpool this year, which will animated throughout its run and have been specifically designed for the event. You can therefore expect all the colour and whimsy of the season at the Liverpool Christmas Markets.

Us Scousers are also well-known for our warm welcome, so there’s nowhere better to embrace the cold and festive season. There will be plenty of festive cheer at St George’s Plateau this year, creating a wonderful atmosphere this Christmastime. You will have to experience it to believe it.
