5 Free and Romantic Dates in Liverpool

Liverpool is one of the best places in the UK for romantic dates. With its swanky restaurants and quirky cocktail bars, it’s all too easy to forget that there’s plenty to enjoy with your other half for free.

And even if you’re not a fan of your date, we’re certain your heart will still lie with this incomparable city!

Romance on Foot

From wandering the city’s most beautiful spots, to exhibitions guaranteed to get you talking, romance in Liverpool can be ignited with free activities that don’t involve expensive meals.

With streets fit for a Parisian postcard, you don’t need to spend anything for a romantic date in Liverpool. In our humble opinion, the hidden gems, scenic town houses and leafy streets are seen best on foot. So, why not give good old fashioned romance a whirl and enjoy great conversation with beautiful Georgian backdrops around the city centre?

The Georgian houses along Rodney Street, Catherine Street and Falkner Street are complemented by quaint rows of trees. You’ll find the city’s two striking cathedrals only moments away, and both are free to enter.

With independent restaurant and cafe hot spots like Hope Street just around the corner, you could treat yourself to a warm coffee before you head back home. And with Liverpool’s independents, you won’t be needing Starbucks anytime soon!

Explore the Museums

In Ross and Rachel style, museums can actually make a better date than you think!

At the World Museum, you can delve into the most weird and wonderful sections of history, exploring everything from dinosaurs to Ancient Egypt. And to give your date an extra sparkle, why not head to the dazzling Planetarium for a show that transports you through space and time?

The Museum of Liverpool is the perfect spot for taking a nostalgic look at the city. Enjoy everything from the rise of commercial Liverpool to The Beatles Show. This museum is located along the waterfront, so it’s the perfect place to watch the sun go down after a busy day.

Discover Art in the City

If you’re looking for something artsy to do in Liverpool or just something different, look no further than a date visiting one of the city’s atmospheric art galleries.  You’ll find yourself lost in thought and romance as you admire the array of exhibitions and activities. And if nerves are getting the best of you, we’re sure that you’ll find yourself at ease after a relaxing wander with your date.

Featuring work by Tracey Emin and Picasso, Tate Liverpool should certainly be on your list of choice when it comes to Liverpool’s art galleries. And conveniently neighbouring the World Museum, you’ll discover the Walker Art Gallery, featuring artists such as Hockney and Degas.

Not forgetting, hidden gem The Bluecoat can be found tucked away in between some of the city’s most popular retail stores. So, take a break from the busy shopping scene and find yourself immersed in a world of creativity and calm. You’ll discover lively visual art that we’re sure will get you thinking.

Two Dreamy Cathedrals

Liverpool boasts not one stunning cathedral, but two. And that means there’s no excuse for getting stuck with ideas when you’re planning a date!

You can explore the atmospheric Anglican Cathedral and take in its history and ambience all for free. And if you don’t mind spending a few pounds once you’re there, why not take a trip up the tower to take in the breathtaking views of the city?

The Metropolitan Cathedral also offers a fantastic view of the city, even from its steps. Only a short walk away from the Anglican, and there’s plenty of places to stop for a coffee or a bite to eat along the way.

Prepare a Picnic

Liverpool locals are lucky enough to enjoy multiple parks filled with beautiful greenery and lakes.

To escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, why not head to Sefton Park or Calderstones Park with a tasty picnic in hand?

And you don’t need to wait until Summer! A stroll in the crisp Winter weather can be just as delightful as the sunnier days of the year. And with a flask of hot chocolate for two tucked into your bag, you really can’t go wrong.
