September has an exciting month in store for you in Liverpool. So, it’s time to wash away those bank holiday blues and plan your next 30 days, because they’re guaranteed to be pretty special, if the following events are anything to go by.
1. Sip Don’t Shoot with Ocho 8

How does a free tequila tasting sound? If the answer is great, make your way to 23 Fleet Street on 1st September for this superb event. We think you’ll agree it’s a pretty great way to start the month.
2. Tickle the Ivories
When: 1st July to 4th September 2016
Where: Liverpool One
Tickle the Ivories will finish on 4th September, so it’s not too late to show the people of Liverpool just how talented you are on the piano or, at the very least, have a try of some pretty great pianos that are dotted across Liverpool One.
3. Radio City’s Festival Lunch
When: Friday 2nd September 2016
Where: The Club House
Start your weekend early on Friday 2nd at The Club House, because they are the proud host of Radio City’s Festival Lunch, which is offering a glorious festival-themed afternoon of food, music and prizes. You can enjoy live performances on the main stage, whilst browsing the outdoor stalls. Tickets are just £45.
4. Free Garden Party

It seems there’s just no stopping Constellations when it comes to excellent events in Liverpool, because they’ve done it once again with the Free Garden Party with Sam Power, Marren, Flemo and Brennan.
When: Saturday 3rd September (2pm-8pm)
Whether you have a beard or not, you will absolutely love BeerdFest. Straight off the back of their Free Garden Party, Constellations is bringing you this amazing festival in celebration of World Beard Day. There will be everything from a beard contest (you will need a beard for this one, sorry), live music and a food contest.
6. Footman Tours
When: Every Saturday and Sunday until 30th October 2016
Where: St George’s Hall
Due to popular demand, St George’s Hall has extended their Footman Tours, which allows visitors to explore parts of the building that were previously inaccessible. The tours will run twice every day on Saturdays and Sundays until 30th October 2016 – so you can walk along recently discovered tunnels and old wooden stairwells.
Tickets are available for £20 – or £29 for the tour and Footman Afternoon Tea. The tours will run at 11.30am and 1pm and will last approximately 90 minutes.
7. Fusion Festival

It’s not every day mega music stars make their way into Liverpool – but that’s exactly what you can expect to find at Fusion Festival. Jason Derulo will headline the event on 3rd September and joining the line-up is Tinie Tempah, Labrinth, Craig David’s TS5, Sigma, Sigala, Fleur East, to name but a few.
Pop is on top on Sunday 4th September, with Olly Murs headlining the event on the Sunday. He will also be joined by Busted, The Vamps, Ella Henderson, Nathan Sykes, DJ Fresh, Jamie Lawson, Lawson and many more. Tickets are still available so book now so you don’t miss a moment of this exciting weekend of music.
8. Outdoor Cinema Club
When: 6th to 14th September 2016
Where: Botanical Garden
Independent Liverpool are saying goodbye to the summer with the Outdoor Cinema Club. Following their online poll, the public has spoken and they want to see The Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. You can grab your entry tickets from Skiddle for just £10 – which is for entry only. Happy hour will commence from half 7 and the film will start at approximately 8.30-8.45pm. Please note, the event is for those aged 18 and over and disabled access is available.
9. Heritage Open Days
When: Thursay 8th to Sunday 11th September 2016
Where: Various venues
Have you ever wondered what lies behind or beneath some of Liverpool’s most historical venues? The Heritage Open Days will provide a perfect opportunity to explore the sights and past of the city’s hidden attractions, such as the Ancient Chapel of Toxteth, Bluecoat Arts Centre, Liverpool Medical Institution, Liverpool Town Hall, The Royal Liver Building and so much more. 10. Pirates on the Dock

Where: Albert Dock
Pirates on the Dock will sail into Liverpool this September, so grab your little buccaneers and join this free event at the Albert Dock. There will be everything from theatrical swordfights from pirates, exceptional stunts and a pirate and mermaid parade. There will also be an opportunity to learn more about local folklore.
11. Craig Charles’ Funk & Soul Club
When: 10th September 2016
Where: Camp and Furnace
Craig Charles will bring you the very best funk, soul and groove tunes at Camp and Furnace’s Funk ‘n’ Soul Club – which is considered to be on the biggest and friendliest club nights you can enjoy.
12. Stranger Tings
When: 10th September 2016 (10pm – 3am)
Where: The Merchant
Stranger Things is the best thing to hit the small screen since Breaking Bad – which is why The Merchant just had to host Stranger Tings, which offers a night of the amazing music that featured in – and inspired – the Netflix hit show. Expect to hear Toto’s ‘Africa’, Jefferson Airplane’s ‘White Rabbit’ and, of course, The Clash’s ‘Should I Stay or Should I Go?’ Entry is free.
13. Cage Warriors
When: 10th September 2016
Where: Liverpool Echo Arena
Cage Warriors will most certainly pack a punch and then some this September. The MMA event will offer a knockout night, featuring two of the most exciting mixed martial artists, Liverpool locals Chris Fishgold and Paddy Pimblett. Chris will defend his Lightweight Champion title against Paddy, who will provide stiff competition following a seven-fight winning streak.
14. The Liverpool Selfie Challenge
When: Saturday 10th September 2016 (10am-2pm)
Where: Starting at Liverpool Town Hall
Put your selfie skills to the test with The Liverpool Selfie Challenge this month. Bring your family or friends along to participate in this fun challenge, which encourages you to take a selfie at each location – and you must use the tag #LVPselfie on social media to win an amazing prize.
There will be three challenge levels of gold, silver and bronze – so forget the Olympics and join in on this amazing event. There will also be prizes for the best team name and most creative selfie.
15. Artisans at Calderstones Park
When: Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th September 2016
Where: Calderstones Park
The Artisan Network regularly organise a variety of events and markets across Merseyside, Cheshire and Lancashire – and this month they’re coming to Calderstones Park. Expect to see everything from delicious macaroons and unique gifts. Food traders will have your mouth watering from the moment you step inside the park, whilst there will be plenty of local art and crafts for you to browse.
16. Curve Fashion Festival
When: Saturday 10th September 2016
Where: Exhibition Centre Liverpool
The Curve Fashion Festival is the UK’s largest plus size event and is brought to you in partnership with Look magazine. The event will offer the most fabulous plus size fashions, with collections from Marks & Spencer, River Island, Boohoo.com, Simply Be and Very.co.uk.
There will also be plenty of famous faces in attendance, including Hayley Hasselhoff (the face of the festival), TV personality Chantelle Hayes and Gogglebox’s very own Sandi and Sandra – who you can chat to at the special meet and greet session.
17. Chicago the Musical
When: Monday 12th to Saturday 17th September 2016
Where: Liverpool Empire
The Liverpool Empire is giving you the ol’ razzle dazzle with Chicago the Musical from 12th to 17th September. Follow the glamour and gruesomeness of a 1920s murder committed by two vaudevillian murderesses. Full of celebrity, song and dance, you’ll find it hard not to become wrapped up in this wickedly-good musical.
18. Liverpool Comedy Festival

Have the needle and cotton at the ready, because your sides will be splitting at the Liverpool Comedy Festival. Homegrown Liverpool talent will take to the stage at various venues across the city, all with the aim of making you laugh. It’s the funniest fortnight of the year – so give yourself a reason to smile and come along from 16th September to 2nd October.
19. Liverpool Food & Drink Festival
When: 17th & 18th September 2016
Where: Sefton Park
We hope you’re hungry because the Liverpool Food & Drink Festival is coming back to Sefton Park this month. The champions of the city’s food and drink scene are offering up a variety of dishes and drinks that will fill any rumbling tummy.
There will be artisan pizzas, craft beers, chocolate and spirits for you to try. There will also be celebrity chef demonstrations, masterclasses, live music, themed dining areas and a mix of sweet and savoury stalls. It will make every other weekend look pretty boring.
20. The Pizza & Prosecco Feast
When: 18th September 2016
Just when you thought Constellations couldn’t top this month’s events and then they serve up pizza and prosecco. This mini festival is not only offering up 20 different types of prosecco, prosecco cocktails and a range of local pizza traders, who will battle it out for the perfect slice, but there will be live music throughout the day – and entry will cost you just £5.
21. Friends Pub Quiz
When: 18th September 2016 at 7pm
Where: Ship & Mitre
Think you know all there is to know about the TV show Friends? It’s time to test out that knowledge at the Friends Pub Quiz at the Ship & Mitre. You can enter the quiz for just £2 – and there will also be special Friends drinks available on the night.
22. Lush Cosmetics Food & Beer Pairing

If Lush hadn’t done enough by bringing us beautiful smelling bath bombs and skincare products, they’ve teamed up with BrewDog to offer a cruelty-free event. On Monday 19th September, you can join Brewdog for an education into skincare and there will also be some complimentary pampers on offer.
There will also be a five-course plant-based “food frenzy”, which will be paired with five vegan beers. You can learn how to make your own bath bombs, and there will also be plenty of goodies for you to take home. Tickets are available for £30 each, and £2 from each ticket will be donated towards The Charity Pot.
23. Blood Brothers
When: Monday 19th September to 1st October 2016
Where: Liverpool Empire
Willy Russell’s Blood Brothers will take to the Liverpool Empire stage once again, offering an evening of drama that will pull at your heartstrings. You will be swept up in the story of two twins, separated at birth, who have grown up with very different lives, only to meet again.
24. Twopence to Cross the Mersey
When: 20th September to 6th October 2016
Where: Royal Court Liverpool
After a successful stint at the Royal Court Liverpool in Spring 2015, Helen Forrester’s Twopence to Cross the Mersey will return from 20th September until 6th October. Audiences will have another opportunity to watch the new stage play version of this much-loved story, which follows a wealthy young girl and her family who are suddenly thrown into poverty during the Great Depression of the 1930s.
25. Independent Liverpool Oktoberfest
When: 22nd September to 25th September 2016
Where: The Great Baltic Warehouse
For steins and good times, you have to attend the Independent Liverpool Oktoberfest, which will offer plenty of beers, hot dogs and one amazing atmosphere at the Great Baltic Warehouse. Providing the perfect blend of German beers and the friendliness of Liverpool, you are in for one amazing weekend of local beers and food.
There are four sessions for you to choose from and ticket prices will vary depending on your chosen day, costing from £3 to £6. You must be 18 years old or over to attend the event.
26. Tony’s Last Tape
When: Thursday 22nd to Saturday 24th September 2016
Where: Liverpool Everyman
The critically-acclaimed Tony’s Last Tape by Andy Barret hits the Everyman Theatre’s stage this month, following a successful run in London and the Edinburgh Festival. The play stars Phillip Bretherton, who plays Tony Benn who, after years of recording every aspect of his life, has decided he will record his last tape.
27. Liverpool Oktoberfest
When: 22nd to 25th September 2016
Where: Pier Head
You have not one but two Oktoberfests to choose from this month – and it isn’t even October yet! Munich comes to the Mersey this month, as you can enjoy a stein at the Pier Head. Freshers will also love the news that the event will host its first ever Student Day Oktoberfest on 22nd – as you’ll receive 50% off your first beer or will receive a free beer if you’re in fancy dress and have a £5 student ticket. Entrance from Thursday and Sunday is free – but it will cost £5 for Friday and £10 for the Saturday afternoon and evening event.
28. 30 James Street: Wedding Open Evening
When: 22nd September 2016 (5pm to 9pm)
Where: 30 James Street
There is so much that goes into planning a wedding, you can often become so wrapped up in the details that you forget it’s supposed to be a fun and romantic time. That’s why 30 James Street is opening up their doors, so you explore your potential wedding venue, with a complimentary glass of prosecco and canapes for you to enjoy as you explore the White Star Grand Hall and their accommodation. Planning a wedding really should be fun, so bring your hubby or wife-to-be on 22nd September to picture your dream day at 30 James Street.
29. Fiesta Bombarda Constellations Carnival
When: 23rd September 2016
Fiesta Bombarda is back this September to add a splash of colour to your life. There will be neon face-paints, a neon nebula with UV canons, interactive stalls and immersive set designs that will light up your night. On top of all this, there will be four DJs, 6 live bands and uniquely designed stages.
30. Hip Hop Karaoke
When: 24th September 2016 (From 9pm until late)
Where: The Merchant
Ever thought you have what it takes to make it as a big rapper? Class yourself as a bit of Slim Shady or Missy Elliot? Take yourself to The Merchant on 24th – because you have the chance to feel like Snoop Dogg for one night only. We hope people have brought their umbrellas, because you’ll have the perfect opportunity to spit rhymes to everyone who’ll come along to listen. The event is free and the doors will be open from 9pm until late.
31. Bare Grills: The Inaugural Grilled Cheese Contest
When: 27th September 2016
Where: Filter + Fox
Filter and Fox are taking cheesy events to a whole new level, because you can put your grilled cheese making skills to the test at Bare Grills: The Inaugural Grilled Cheese Contest – just send in your recipe ahead of the contest by email. They will then select the top 8 who will be invited to present their grilled cheese creations to a panel of judges on Tuesday 27th September.
There are rules you must follow, because you can use no more than 6 ingredients and only one homemade ingredient is allowed; there’s also a maximum of 2 condiments and you must provide a drink and music to accompany your recipe.
32. The Freshers 90s Rave
When: 29th September 2016
If you’re embarking on your first year at a Liverpool university, you will not want to miss The Freshers 90s Rave. The event is brought to you by Buyers Club, who will be taking over Constellations for the night, offering 90s fancy dress and music. Entry is free.
