26 Events You Won’t Want to Miss this October

October marks an exciting month in the city. Not only do we have Halloween, but Liverpool is absolutely brimming with events this October that you really won’t want to miss. As ever, we’ve done our homework to bring you the very best things to see or do. Offering a month of music, beer, theatre, boxing fights and plenty of Halloween frights, you’ll never be short of exciting things to experience this month.

1. St George’s Hall Beer Festival

When: Friday 30th September to Saturday 1st October 2016

Where: St George’s Hall

It’s not just amazing history and architecture you can experience at St George’s Hall this month, because the Liverpool landmark is hosting a beer festival that you’re going to want to attend. Why? Well, because it’s full of more than 200 real ales and ciders, continental beers and lagers, wines and local food, that’s why. There will also be live entertainment to create a buzzing atmosphere. We advise booking soon to avoid disappointment.

2. Botanical Garden Closing Party

Where: Botanical Garden

The Botanical Garden is sadly closing. As a thank you for all your support, they are hosting a superb closing party, providing the public with a final chance to enjoy a gin at the popular venue. There will also be a special cocktail menu, as well as a special food menu from Finca, including tacos. We’d go for the tacos alone.

3. Prom!

The best night of your younger years comes to Camp and Furnace this October. Even if you never got to experience a prom night during your teens, you’ll feel like a teenager again at this unforgettable night, which will be filled with shoulder pads, big hair and plenty of dodgy ball gowns.

The music of the 80s and 90s will have you on the dancefloor, as a a live band will perform the greatest hits of both decades. There will also be a professional photographer to take a snap of you and your date, plenty of party food and, of course, there will be punch bowl. There will also be an epic after party at Stifler’s Moms (Blade Factory), because the party doesn’t have to end just because the prom has drawn to a close.

4. The Two Gentleman of Verona

Where: Everyman Theatre

Shakespeare’s The Two Gentleman of Verona is thrown into the 21st century, thanks to the Everyman Theatre. This anarchic comedy is full of plenty of laughs, drama, songs, romance and chaos. Sounds like a great night at the theatre to us!

5. The Rivals

Where: Playhouse Theatre

From one great theatre production to another, the Playhouse Theatre proves it’s just as good as her sister, the Everyman, with The Rivals. Full of comedy gold, the plot follows book lover Lydia who dreams of falling in love with a penniless man, so she can feel straight out of a fiction novel; however, when a wealthy captain falls head over heels in love with the dreamer, he has to disguise himself as a poor soldier in an attempt to win her heart.

6. A Kind of Magic

Where: Liverpool Philharmonic Hall

For an evening of killer Queen tracks, take yourself along to the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on 8th October. The rock band’s songs will be performed with a twist, offering lashings of glam rock, soul and grand opera. Whether you’re a Queen fan or just appreciate exceptional music, this is one event you cannot afford to miss.

The Liverpool Philharmonic Hall is hosting the event for what would have been Freddy Mercury’s 70th birthday this year, which is why West End singers will take the stage, alongside the Philharmonic Choir and Nick Davies as the conductor.

7. BBC Radio 1Xtra Live

BBC Radio 1Xtra is putting on one amazing show at the Liverpool Echo Arena, offering a fantastic line-up of Sean Paul, Stormzy, Giggs, Lady Leshuur, Wretch 32, Desiigner and Damien Marley. Simply unmissable.

8. Sister Act

When: Monday 10th to Saturday 15th October 2016

Where: Liverpool Empire Theatre

Sister Act, the smash hit West End and Broadway show, returns to the Liverpool Empire this month, and is choreographed and directed by none other than Craig Revel Horwood. The feel-good comedy will also star X-Factor winner Alexandra Burke, taking on Whoopi Goldberg’s iconic role.

9. The Liverpool Funk & Soul Club

Where: The Magnet Liverpool

You cannot help but be drawn to The Magnet this October, because they are offering The Liverpool Funk & Soul Club on 12th. The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble will perform incredible songs from their brass instruments, offering a night unlike any other in the city.

10. Professor Brian Cox Live

Where: Liverpool Philharmonic Hall

Science lovers can rejoice, because Professor Brian Cox is visiting the city to take us on a journey through space and time. The audience will have an opportunity to delve into high science, and will learn what it’s like to freewheel on the edges of the unknown cosmos. Whether you’re a space lover or not, this event is out of this world.

11. Liverpool Irish Festival 2016

12. Artful Dodger DJ Set

The sound of garage will be hitting The Shipping Forecast on 14th. For one night only, you can enjoy an amazing set from the Artful Dodger. What’s more, entry is free, so you can enjoy a fantastic of great music, food and drink.

13. Supreme Queen

Where: The Epstein Theatre (Doors open from 7pm)

As a homage to the late, great Freddy Mercury, The Epstein Theatre are offering a fitting tribute to the front-man, with Scott Maley taking to the stage to perform Queen’s greatest hits, supported by a talented band.

14. Father O’Flaherty Save Our Souls

Where: Royal Court Liverpool

Father O’Flaherty is back at the Royal Court Liverpool – and this time he has his very own show. Full of many rude jokes and singing nuns, you can guarantee you’ll leave the theatre with a massive smile on your face.

15. Tony Bellew vs BJ Flores

Where: Echo Arena Liverpool

Tony Bellew, one of the best Liverpool boxers in the sport, will headline the event, defending his WBC World Cruiserweight title against B.J Flores at the Echo Arena Liverpool. Other boxers taking to the ring include Luke Campbell MBE to defend his WBC Silver Lightweight title against Derry Mathews, whilst Liverpool fighters David Price will come up against Rocky Fielding. Not forgetting Birkenhead’s Sean ‘Masher’ Dodd, who will defend his WBC International Lightweight title against Gary Sykes.

Everyone’s favourite rock ‘n’ roll musical is all set to return to the Liverpool Empire due to popular demand. Songs, comedy gold and utter naughtiness will provide an evening of sheer fun for each audience, proving Richard O’Brien’s Rocky Horror Show just gets better with age.

18. The Four Tops & The Temptations

Everyone loves a spot of Motown, right? Well, you will love it even more when you catch The Four Tops and The Temptations at the Echo Arena Liverpool. The UK tour will also feature special guests Tavares, and there will be plenty of music to have you up on your feet, such as the hit songs ‘Baby I Need Your Loving’, ‘I Can’t Help Myself’, ‘My Girl’ and ‘Ain’t Too Proud to Beg’.

19. North West Fashion Festival

Fashion and beauty lovers will adore this fabulous event at St George’s Hall, which will over beauty tips, makeovers, hair stylists, celebrity make-up artists, up-and-coming designers and incredible runway shows and fashion exhibitions. You can also squeeze a little bit of shopping in. Y’know, if you have time.

20. 1984

Constellations

When: 25th to 28th October 2016

Where: Constellations

Constellations dips its toe in the world of theatre with George Orwell’s 1984, which has been adapted for the stage by Tell Tale Theatre. Follow the story of Winston Smith, a rebellious member of a dystopian society ruled by Big Brother.

21. Kanye Fest

Following the success of Kanye Fest Part I back in February, Part II is ensuring October is an exciting month for the people of Liverpool. Come along to 24 Kitchen Street for an evening dedicated to Yeezy himself.

22. Sing-a-long-a Frozen

The children (and maybe Mum and Dad, too) will not be able to get enough of Sing-a-Long-a Frozen, which allows kids to sing their hearts out, learn some amazing dance moves and feel just like Elsa and Anna. Coming to the Liverpool Empire Theatre on 26th October, we recommend booking tickets soon to avoid disappointment.

23. Frankenstein

Frankenstein might be 200 years of age, but that doesn’t mean it’s too old to give you shivers down your spine. Just in time for Halloween, the Everyman Theatre brings a Young Everyman Playhouse production of the Mary Shelley tale, offering a night of theatricality that will tingle at your bones.

24. Liverpool Disco Festival 2016

Where: Various Baltic Triangle venues

The Liverpool Disco Festival was initially set to be hosted at Camp and Furnace; however, due to overwhelming demand, the event will now be held at various Baltic Triangle venues, including the Great Baltic Warehouse, New Bird Street Warehouse, Botanical Garden and 24 Kitchen Street.

The venues will welcome more than 2,500 disco lovers, offering a night of great tunes, state-of-the-art sound systems and lighting, providing an unbelievable atmosphere you and your friends won’t forget in a hurry.

25. Horse Meat Disco Halloween Special

Where: The Merchant

Disco fever is certainly rife in the city this season, as you have another opportunity to whip out those dancing shoes and strut your stuff at the Horse Meat Disco Halloween Special. Entry is free and you can dance until the early hours in one of the city’s newest bars, The Merchant.

26. Psycho: Film with Live Orchestra

Where: Liverpool Philharmonic Hall

For a Halloween to rival all others, book tickets to see Psycho: Film with Live Orchestra. For one night only, you can watch Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho, with Bernard Herrmann’s movie score performed live by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. It will give you chills.
