22 Liverpool Events You Won’t Want to Miss This August

Oh, you are in for a treat this August – as there are so many amazing events taking place across the city. As your go-to guide for everything amazing in Liverpool, here are 22 events you won’t want to miss this month.

1. Where There’s a Will – Much Ado About Nothing

When: Wednesday 3rd to Friday 5th August 2016

Where: St George’s Hall

To mark the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death, St George’s Hall will host four of the Bard’s most popular plays, which will be held in their magnificent Concert Room.

You can therefore catch the unforgettable Much Ado About Nothing from the 3rd to 5th August, as part of the Where There’s a Will season. St George’s Hall’s stunning interior and flexible space will perfectly complement the drama and scale of one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays.

2. Liverpool Loves

When: Thursday 4th to Sunday 6th August 2016 (9am – 9pm)

Where: Pier Head

Liverpool is a melting pot of culture, which is why you just have to take yourself along to Liverpool Loves this August. The annual event is a celebration of everything wonderful about our city: business, food and culture.

There will be music, street food, entertainment, conferences, and so much more. So grab your partner, best friend and/or the kids and enjoy a great day out at the Pier Head.

3. Tickle the Ivories

When: 1st July to 4th September 2016

Where: Liverpool One

It’s time to tickle those ivories at Liverpool One, as you have an opportunity to play one of six pianos for the public. Whether you class yourself as a rookie or Beethoven, you can take to the piano by booking a free time slot to perform on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Tickle the Ivories is also open for free play sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, which means you don’t have to book to play for the public.

4. Sounds Familiar

Where: Camp and Furnace

Camp and Furnace’s Sounds Familiar will make its return on Friday 5th August. It’s a quiz with a difference, as it offers a disco format that’ll have you laughing and dancing from start to finish.
Playing over 100 tracks from every decade, it’s the only music quiz you’ll want to play this year. So, after a long hard day at work, grab your friends or colleagues and put your pop knowledge to the test. Entry costs just £10 per team and you’ll receive a bottle of prosecco.

5. Peppa Pig at Knowsley Safari Park

Where: Knowsley Safari Park

Knowsley Safari Park is filled with some pretty amazing animals, but none are more famous than Peppa Pig – who’ll be visiting the park on Sunday 6th August. The kids will love to meet everyone’s favourite children’s TV character, as well as the 700 exotic animals who live in Knowsley Safari Park.

We don’t know about you, but we love a good BBQ here at Signature’s Liverpool – which is why we’re sure you won’t want to miss Garden Grooves at Oh Me Oh My. Add to that a disco, with an amazing set from Derek Kaye, Pooky and Chris Shennan, and you are in for the ultimate summer’s day out in the city centre.

7. Acoustic Underground

Do you have a voice that deserves to be heard? Class yourself as a talented musician? Or are you just looking for a great night of local music? Either way, you should definitely stop by Acoustic Underground at the Everyman, then.

Acoustic Underground is an open mic night, which will also feature special performances by Seafoam Green, Reid Anderson and Ellie Smith. So, don’t be afraid to step up to the mic and show the theatre just what you’re made of.

8. The Flimflam Jam Slam

The Baltic Social don’t do things by halves – especially their events. That’s why you need to make your way to The Flimflam Jam Slam on 13th August. Guest presenters JaZZ RiOT will host their first night at The Baltic Social, and will feature bands formed on the night with the help of a tombola machine. Did we mention there will be free jam and scones?

9. Tri Liverpool 2016

Back for its fourth year, Tri Liverpool will make its return to the Echo Arena on 14th August. Entrants will be required to swim, cycle and run past numerous Liverpool landmarks, such as the Albert Dock and Pier Head, proving they have what it takes to complete this superb challenge, which will feature beginners to elite triathlon sporting stars.

10. West Side Story

It’s time to click those fingers and pull out your dancing shoes, because West Side Story is coming to the Liverpool Empire. The modern day Romeo and Juliet retelling offers the story of the street gangs the Jets and the Sharks in New York City.

11. Wedding Open Evening at 30 James Street

30 James Street undoubtedly offers one of the most beautiful wedding venues in Liverpool. After all, it once served as the White Star Line’s Headquarters and was RMS Titanic’s port of registry. 15. International Beatleweek

They say all you need is love, but we say all you need is The Beatles. Can you believe it’s been one whole year since International Beatleweek? Well, the annual festival is back and will have you singing Fab Four songs eight days a week.

Cavern City Tours once again hosts this fantastic event, which is a celebration of the world famous Liverpool band. 70 bands from over 20 countries will take to the stage, with fans from over 40 countries coming together to watch them in the crowd.

Liverpool Biennial continues its run in the city until 16th October – so there’s plenty of time for you to catch some marvellous exhibitions, events, performances and films in the city this month. Head to FACT to see exhibitions from Lucy Beech, Yin-Ju Chen and Krzysztof Wodiczko, enjoy a curator tour of Cains Brewery or take the children to Bluecoat Summer School.

Not only can you enjoy live acoustic rock, sea shanty and folk rock, but you can enjoy the incredible story of how ships and their crews entered the city’s docks, which shaped our musical landscape forever.

BBC Radio 2 DJ Janice Long will play host on the event’s main stage, and modern folk acts Laura J Martin, Blair Dunlop and The Lost Brothers will perform for your enjoyment, plus so much more.

20. Look Into My Pies

Look Into My Pies offers so much more than just an excellent pun, because it is a superb pie and cider festival taking place this bank holiday weekend. Whether you’re a steak and kidney or chicken and veg type of pie-eater, there will be a pie to suit your taste at The Merchant, as you can take your pick from 40 different pies from across the UK. Whether you’re a meat-eater, vegetarian, vegan or have a gluten intolerance, there will be a tasty pie and glass of cider with your name on it!

The UK’s funniest comedienne will be visiting Liverpool this August for one funny-bone tickling show. You can guarantee you’ll be grinning from ear to ear once Sarah hits the stage for her fourth stand-up tour.

22. The Asylum

Where: Newsham Park Hospital

Are you a little bit in love with The Walking Dead? Aren’t we all. Well, if you want to find out if you could survive when faced with a zombie, you just have to book The Asylum. Taking place at Newsham Park Hospital, you will have to fight through free roaming zombies to see if you can survive the experience.

As soon as you enter the abandoned factory, you’ll have to find a way to survive over a three hour period, with the hope that somewhere, anywhere, is safe from the zombies. You’ll also be trained to use replica airsoft weapons, which will provide you with the tools to fight any zombie. A true test to your endurance and nerves.
